Catch Up Round Up: 25/04/13 – 01/05/13
A brief summary of what’s still available on Catch Up/On Demand from a pick of the previous weeks TV. All dates are as of Thursday 2nd May 2013.
The Politician’s Husband – Aired Thursday 25th April BBC2. 15 days left.
An enjoyable drama that I anticipate will get darker as the series goes on. Some flowery dialogue aside (they are politicians after all), this could be one to keep an eye on. Let’s just hope the characters don’t get too unlikeable before we can really get into it.
The United States of Television: America in Primetime – Aired Saturday 27th April BBC2. 17 days left.
A thinly veiled excuse to replay lots of clips of great shows from primetime Amercian television. This week: Misfits (episode 1, Man of the House, is also available but I haven’t been able to watch it yet). If you like your characters weird and wonderful, this is the show for you, if only to remind you that you never got round to watching that and should search for a cheap DVD (Twin Peaks definitive gold boxset only £27 on Amazon!).
Vicious – Aired Monday 29th April ITV1. 27 days left.
Considering the cast, I’m not sure if this is supposed to be a satirical sideswipe at the stereotypical depiction of gay people, or just a stereotypical depiction of gay people that has taken most of it’s inspiration from Are you Being Served?. One thing I do know is it’s terrible. Except for the curtain gag, which I didn’t really get, but at least it didn’t make my ears bleed.
Dispatches: Secrets of Your Missing Mail – Aired Monday 29th April Ch4. 27 days left.
A brief peek into how private mail companies actually look after your post in light of the news that Royal Mail will be privatised. Though you will be left with an impotent rage you can do shit all about, it’s well worth a watch. Especially if like me, you like to have things to be indignant about.
The Job Lot – Aired Monday 29th April IVT1. 27 days left.
This show has perfectly captured and replicated the feel of a job centre. It’s boring, banal and has absolutely no regard for any of the characters roaming around inside of it. I don’t hate this, or love it. I nothing it.
Sweat the Small Stuff – Aired Tuesday 30th April BBC3. 10 days left.
The hilarious trailers for this led me to believe I was going to see an insightful 30 minute pondering about the everyday minutiae of life. What I got was a yoof panel show with mediocre guests. Damn you BBC3! Recommended for when you have a hangover on a Sunday morning or if there just isn’t anything else on.
Scott & Bailey – Aired Wednesday 1st May ITV1. TBC days left.
This series has been a little off, with pacing issues, flashbacks and 3 out of 5 episodes dedicated to the Bevan family (as interesting as it is). Though I can’t fault the acting, writing or even the onsite catering, I think it’s just missing that direction that we have seen in previous series. That being said, Scott & Bailey on a bad day is still better than most tv, though I get the feeling you have to have lady parts to appreciate it.
